Rohit shouldered with World Cup responsibility

Rohit Kumar Paudel will lead Nepal for the first time when he captains the youth team for the ICC U-19 World Cup Asia Qualifier to be held in Malaysia from April 12.Now a national team emerging star, Rohit, will shoulder the responsibility of guiding Nepal to their eighth appearance in the U-19 World Cup which South Africa is hosting in 2020. Nepal will face the challenge from Oman, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and Singapore in the Qualifier with only one spot available.

Only the table toppers after the round robin league will qualify for the U-19 World Cup. Rohit will have a relatively easy task with few more experience campaigners in the U-19 team who have a haul of domestic and little international experience which could be handful.

From the 14-member final squad announced on Tuesday, Rohit will have the experience his national team teammates Pawan Sarraf, Bhim Sharki and Sandeep Jora with experienced Aasif Sheikh also around. The five players are so far the biggest name in Nepal's domestic cricket having also made into the national team.

Bhim is yet to make debut for the national team, while other players have already earned their caps. Other players in the 14-member final squad include Kamal Singh Airee, Rashid Khan, Rit Gautam, Pratis GC, Hari Bahadur Chauhan, Sagar Dhakal, Avishek Basnet and Surya Tamang.

Akash Chand, Lokesh Bahadur Bam, Ravi Kumar Sah and Sher Malla were kept reserves. The final squad was announced after the team returned from the recent preparation tour of India. Nepal had played six practice matches and underwent training sessions in Andhra Pradesh.
