Apr 01, 2019 | CN Staff |

The U-16 National Cricket Tournament is beginning from Tuesday at the TU grounds with Province 3 taking on Province 4.

All the seven provinces will participate in the league-cum-knock out tournament in order to select cricketers for the upcoming ACC U-16 Eastern Region Tournament to be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand from April 18-29.

The seven provinces have been divided into two groups with the top two from each side making it to the semi-finals. Province 3, Province 4, Province 5 and Province 6 are in Group 'A' with rest of the teams in Group 'B'.

The tournament is organised by Youth and Sports Ministry in coordination with National Sports Council. Madan Bhandari Sports Academy is managing the entire tournament. The seven-day tournament was possible following two rounds of selection tournament involving 40 district and provinces.

According to national team coach Jagat Tamatta the cricketers were first picked up in district selection and 30 players made the cut for selection in provinces. The final 18-member squad was then picked up after a round of selection matches in the respective provinces.

The tournament will be a 30-over contest as Asian Cricket Council will be hosting 35-over Eastern Region tournament.
