Rit smashes ton, Kushal impresses allround in big Nepal victory

Jul 05, 2019 | CN Staff |
Rit Gautam smashed a century and Kushal Malla gave an allround display as Nepal thrashed Singapore by 217 runs in to finish Group 'A' winners of the ACC U-19 Eastern Region Tournament on Friday at the Kinrara Oval in Malaysia.
Electing to bat first, Rit carried his bat and half centuries from debutant Khadak Bohora and Kushal lifted Nepal to 326-4 in 50 overs. Kushal then picked up four wickets bundling out Singapore for just 109 runs in 39.1 overs.

Nepal topped Group A with four points in two matches and Singapore followed them in the semi-finals as runners-up. Nepal will face the losers of the match between Malaysia and Hong Kong in the semi-finals.

Rit was involved in three big partnerships on his way to scoring an unbeaten century, Nepal's first at the age group level in almost four years. Former captain Raju Rijal had scored a ton for Nepal in the 2015 ICC Under19 World Cup Global Qualifier against Uganda, also in Malaysia.

Rit scored 137-ball 115 laced with 10 boundaries and a six. He shared 92-run opening wicket stand with Pawan Sarraf who made a 41-ball 45 with 10 hits to the fence.

Khadak joined Rit and the two batsmen notched-up 131-run second wicket partnership. Khadka was unlucky to not get into triple figures with his run-a-ball 90 including 12 boundaries.

Kushal cracked some fireworks in death overs with blistering half-century. He chipped in an unbeaten 51 off 23 balls hitting five sixes and four boundaries. Rit and Kushal added 42-ball 82 for the fifth wicket.

Chasing the mammoth total, Singapore never looked like getting anywhere near as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. A 52-run stand between Hari Kukreja and Chandramauli Sridev was the only noticeable partnership for the losing side.

Kukreja top-scored for Singapore with 30 runs off 63 balls that included two fours. Sridev added 56-ball 23 runs before Bhim Sharki found him short of the crease while running between the wicket. He hit three shots to the fence. Kannusami Sathish also added 24 runs off 55 balls with three fours.

Kushal returned the figures of 4-14 from nine overs. Tilak Raj Bhandari was on the top of his game with the figures of 2-9 in 5.1 overs. Rashid Khan (1-12) and Sagar Dhakal (1-16) also picked a wicket each for the winning side.
