Feb 24, 2019 | CN Staff |

Nary Thapa starred with the ball and Apsari Begam shone with the bat as Nepal beat Hong Kong by four-wicket to register their third win of the ICC Women’s Twenty20 World Cup Asia Region Qualifier in Bangkok on Sunday.

Electing to bat first, Hong Kong could only manage to make 62-8 in 20 overs after Nary’s heroic bowling performance in middle overs. Then, Apsari and Sarita Magar made sure that Nepal won’t choke in tricky run-chase with 32-run stand as Nepal finished with 63-6 in 18.3 overs.

Nepal are currently at fourth place in seven-team standing with three wins from four matches. Host Thailand is leading the table -- winning all four matches, they played.

Nary became only fourth bowler in the Twenty20 International history to take six-wicket haul after she returned the figures of 6-8 in her four overs including 19 dot deliveries. She was introduced right after the power play in seventh over where she took care of Bella Poon. Then, she bowled consecutive three overs with five more wickets to her name.

Vice-captain Sita Rana Magar also returned the figures of 2-7 in her four overs.

Hong Kong openers had decent start – adding 23 runs for the first wicket. Both Yasmin Daswani and Poon had scores in double digits with 16 and 11 runs respectively. Marina Lamplough top scored for Hong Kong with 24- ball 19 that included a four.

Chasing the target, Nepal were reeling at 24-4 in 9.4 overs before Apsari and Sarita took the charge with 41-ball 32-run fifth wicket stand. Apsari hit three fours on her way to scoring 24 runs off 35 balls. Sarita finished off the things with unbeaten 30- ball 16.

Jasmine Titmuss picked maximum three wickets for the losing side with the figures of 3-11 in her 3.3 overs.
