Feb 12, 2019 | CN Staff |
Puneet Mehra's all-round performance helped Rupandehi Challengers hammer Biratnagar Kings by five-wicket for their second consecutive victory in the Dhangadhi Premier League on Tuesday.

Electing to bat first at the Fapla Cricket Ground, Kings could only muster 93-9 in 20 overs after Mehra took three wickets. The allrounder then returned with the bat and played a crucial 27-ball-run cameo before Bhim Sharki (12 not out) and Basanta Regmi (eight) took Challengers to 95-5 in 13.1 overs. The victory puts Challengers at the top spot of the six-team standings with four points from two matches.

From 19-3, Mehra led the recovery for Challengers sharing a pivotal 39-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Babar Hayat. Mehra struck four sixes and two sixes and fell just four runs short of his half century losing his wicket to Avinash Yadav. His departure hardly mattered as Challenger were just 13 runs sigh of victory. Hayat chipped in 17 runs from 23 balls that consisted of a six and a four.

Earlier, Mehra conceded just 20 runs in his four overs with a  maiden. Skipper Basant Regmi also bowled very economically with 2-14 to his name. Lalit Bhandari took care of both the openers -- Hari Shankar Shah (zero) and Aasif Sheikh (eight) -- in his first spell and returned the figures of 2-15 in four overs. Krishna Karki (1-15) and Bikram Sob (1-22) also had a scalp apiece.

Rajesh Pulami top scored for Kings with an unbeaten 17 runs from 14 balls with a six. Khan was second best making 16 of 12 including two sixes. Khurtel Bhurtel (12), and Samsad Sheikh (10) were other two batters to reach the double figures.
