Nepal broke a haul of records as they hammered United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a crushing 145-run victory to level the three-match One Day International Series at 1-1.

Nepal skipper Paras Khadka had said before the series that to play against top Test playing nations, they must get dominant against the teams at their par. Although it didn’t came against the Emiratis in the first ODI which they narrowly lost by three wickets despite getting bundled out for just 113 runs, the second game altogether belonged to Nepal.

Nepal produced their most dominating victory against any Associate rivals at their par for a long time after getting set up by a record partnership between openers Gyanendra Malla and Binod Bhandari. The two batsmen added 61 runs for the first wicket and then came the world record holder Rohit Kumar Paudel.

The 16-year old bailed out Nepal from 113-5 and slammed a 55-ball half century to become world’s youngest half century maker leaving behind Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar and Pakistani flamboyant allrounder Shahid Afridi guiding the team to 242-9 in 50 overs for the biggest total so far in the ODIs.

With a big target to chase, Sompal Kami burst through the UAE top order picking up four wickets that helped Nepal bundle out for 97 runs – Nepal’s victim for being skittled out for the lowest total.

UAE hardly recovered in the game and survived for just 19.3 overs with Sompal returning with Nepal’s first ever fifer – 5-33 from 6.3 overs. Star leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane also played a crucial part in team’s victory when he picked up three wickets in single over to reduce UAE to 53-7. Sandeep returned the figures of 4-24 from four overs.
