Thailand outplay Nepal to lift Women's Twenty20 Smash title

Jan 19, 2019 | CN Staff |
An experienced Thailand team hammered Nepal by 70 runs to lift the title of Thailand Women’s Twenty20 Smash on Saturday.

Thailand consolidated their grip in the match with a solid batting display, scoring 121-1 in 20 overs. Nepal – who had decided to field first – remained far behind the task before they were skittled out for just 51 in 17.2 overs.

The hosts finished their tournament campaign unbeaten. But for Nepal, the tournament served as a reality check before they participate in the ICC Women’s Twenty20 World Cup Qualifier Asia scheduled for February 18-27 – also in Thailand.

Natthakan Chantham did bulk of scoring for Thailand with an unbeaten 67 ball-69 in 94-run opening wicket partnership with Naruemoi Chaiwai. She hit four boundaries. Chaiwai – who was found short of her crease by Rubina Chhetry – scored 27 runs facing 42 balls.

Chanida Sutthiruang also contributed unbeaten 19 runs from 11 deliveries which included one boundary. Barring Rubina’s run out, none of the Nepalese bowlers succeed to pick any wicket. Kabita Kunwar was stand out bowler for the losing side conceding just 10 runs in three overs.

In reply, Nepal kept on losing wickets at regular intervals, failing to build any partnership in the game. Sita Rana Magar (13) and Narry Thapa (17) were the only two batswomen to reach double figures for Nepal.

Suleeporn Laomi was pick up the bowler for Thailand with the figures of 3-15 in her bowling spell of four overs.  Sornnarin Tippoch also returned the very economical and destructive figures of 2-6 in her four overs.

Sutthiruang, Nattaya Boochatham, Onnicha Kamchomphu, and Sainammin Saenya also picked up wicket each for winning side.
