Clinical bowling effort helps Nepal thrash Thailand 'A'

Jan 16, 2019 | CN Staff |

An excellent bowling performance helped Nepal outplay Thailand 'A' by nine wickets in Thailand Women’s Twenty20 Smash on Wednesday.

The fourth consecutive victory means Nepal sail into the semi-finals as Group 'A' winners and will now await Group 'B' runners-up -- likely to be Indonesia who are second in the table with three  out of four wins.

The first string Thai team lead the table and they will be facing the United Arab Emirates side.

Electing to field first, a collective bowling effort led by Aarati Bidari’s three wickets bundled out Thailand 'A' for tournament's second low 19 runs in 15.4 overs. Nepal took just 21 balls to reach the target in reply.

Aarati returned the figures of 3-5 from her four-over spell while playing her first match for the national team. She sent back Manatsawee Jatho (two) and Sunida Chaturongrattana (zero) in consecutive deliveries.

Sarita Magar and Indu Barma picked up two wickets apiece. Sarita took 2-4 in three overs and Indu made it 2-2 in her two-over bowling spell. Rubina Chhetry, Sonu Khadka and Sita Rana Magar took a wicket each.

Rubina and Sonu had identical figures of 1-3 from three  overs.

None of the Thailand batswomen managed to reach double figures with runs Thanchanok Phopluk making an unbeaten four.

Nepal raced to the target in 3.3 overs with unbeaten nine runs partnership between Nary Thapa (five) and Dolly Bhatta (two). Mamata Kumari Chaudhary (eight) was the top scorer in Nepal’s comprehensive run-chase.
