Jan 06, 2019 | CN Staff |

Sunil Dhamala’s excellent batting helped Nepal Police Club (NPC) crush Province 2 by 153 runs in the first match of the Manmohan Memorial Cup One Day National in Inaruwa on Saturday.

Asked to bat first, half centuries from three batsmen lifted NPC to 311 runs in 50 overs. Province 2 struggled in their chase and were folded for 158 all out in 37.1 overs.

A strong opening pair of Sunil Dhamala and Amit Shrestha laid the strong foundation for NPC. Sunil topped NPC’s batting card with an 80-ball 73. Amit struck a 59-ball 42. No 3 batsman Dilip Nath made a gritty 59 off 61.

But the real damage was done by Khusal Bhurtel who provided the lift to NPC total smashing a 36-ball 56.

Veteran spinner Sanjam Regmi was the pick of the Province 2 bowlers taking 2-32 in his 10 overs. Rashid Khan and Hari Shankar Sah also took two wickets apiece.

In reply, Hari Shankhar led the reply with a 60-ball 58. Samsad Sheikh (29) and Anshu Kandol (28) were other notable performers with the bat for Province 2.

Lalit Rajbanshi – who got maximum bid in Dhangadhi Premier League auction – picked up three wickets along with Yogendra Singh Karki. Ram Naresh Giri, Sagar Dhakal, Kushal Bhurtel and Prem Tamang also accounted a wicket each.

NPC will meet Santi Deep Inaruwa XI on Sunday.
