Dhangadhi Cricket Academy (DCA) has signed Rs 11 million title sponsorship deal with Ruslan Cricket of Vijay Distillery for the third edition of Dhangadhi Premier League (DPL).

The first ever auction-based Twenty20 cricket tournament of the country is set to be held at the Fapla cricket ground next year from February 2-16. DCA President Subash Bahadur Shahi and Satish Karna, Chief Finance Officer of Vijay Distillery signed the sponsorship deal during a programme in Kathmandu on Friday.

The tournament is going to be held for the first time at the Fapla after the first two editions were held at the SSP cricket grounds. Fapla has been proposed as an international cricket stadium by Shahi and DPL will be a start in materialising the project Dream Fapla.

The six-team DPL includes Biratnagar Kings, CYC Attariya, Team Chauraha Dhangadhi, Rupandehi Challengers, Mahendranagar United and Kathmandu Goldens. Dhangadhi are the two-time defending champions and had earned Rs 2.5 million last year.

Karna hailed the deal as the biggest one. "We have been chipping in for the society under our Corporate Social Responsibility campaign but this is the biggest amount we have contributed in sports," said Karna. The current sponsorship deal has seen a raise of Rs 4 million compared to last year.

According to Shahi, the estimated cost of the tournament this year is Rs 50 million and the cash prize will be announced in due course. "We will finalise the amount for champions in coming days. More than the prize amount, we will remain focused on making the event a grand one in terms of overall management and standard," said Shahi.
