Dhangadhi Premier League auction on January 5

Jan 03, 2019 | CN Staff |

The auction of cricketers for the third season of Dhangadhi Premier League (DPL) has been set for January 5.

The six-team DPL -- one of the popular city-based franchise tournaments of the country -- is set to begin from February 9 at the Fapla cricket ground. A total of 205 players will go under the hammer in the auction where the players will not be categorised under any category.

Starting with the base price of Rs 30,000, the players can set their own price up to Rs 250,000. Each team will have a 15-member squad which will have 11 players from auction, one marquee, two foreign recruits along with a mandatory inclusion of player from talent hunt.

The tournament was supposed to begin from February 2 but since it coincided with national cricket team's bilateral One Day International and Twenty20 International Series, organisers Dhangadhi Cricket Academy postponed it until February 9.

The Twenty20 event promises much this season as DCA is set to make it a highest cash-prized tournament of the country. The champions last season had received Rs 2.5 million.

A total of 19 matches will be played at the Fapla ground including three playoffs and one final. The top four teams after the round robin league will make it to the playoffs.

The top two teams will meet in the first Qualifier with the winner directly reaching the final and the losing side playing in the second Qualifier. The Eliminator match between second and third-placed team will make it to the second Qualifier.
