Sandeep shines in Big Bash League debut

Dec 21, 2018 | CN Staff |
Nepal’s young leggie Sandeep Lamichhane made a successful debut in the Australian Big Bash League (BBL) after he featured for Melbourne Stars against Sydney Thunder and picked up two wickets.

Sandeep delivered impressive spell to take 2-36 in four overs. Both of his wickets came in the first over in which he conceded just three runs. He sent back Thunder's skipper Shane Watson (22) in the second ball and followed it up with Callum Ferguson's (15) dismissal in the last ball after skipper Glenn Maxwell handed him the ball in the eighth over.

Aussie Ferguson has played one Test and 30 one-dayers for the national team. Jason Sangha, who went on to make a 36-ball 63 in the match leading Thunder to 181-5 in 20 overs, struck Sandeep for three sixes in the match.

Sandeep conceded just nine runs in the first two overs but was hit for 13 and 14 in the next two.
Another leg spinner Adam Zampa was Stars' star performer with the ball returning the figures of 2-23 from four overs.

Stars went on to lose the match by 15 runs under Duckworth Lewis after a lengthy rain-interruption put them a revised target of 90 from eight overs. Sandeep was signed by Melbourne Stars for more than $50,000.

He will play in the BBL until first week of January and will fly to Bangladesh for Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). He will again fly back to Australia after completing the BPL stint with Sylhet Sixes.
