Bhandari whirlwind grinds Titans as PPL kicks off in style

Oct 26, 2018 | CN Staff |

Binod Bhandari smashed a quickfire 11-ball 41 as Pokhara Paltan got off their Pokhara Premier League (PPL) campaign off to a flying start with a 58-run victory over Biratnagar Titans on Friday.

Electing to bat first at the Pokhara Stadium, a decent start provided by Kushal Bhurtel was backed up by Bhandari's blitz and half century from Aasif Sheikh leading Paltan to a mammoth 197-3 in 20 overs.

Titans caved in under pressure to score quickly and were restricted to 139-8 in 20 overs. Raju Rijal and Pushpa Thapa top scored with 30 runs each for Titans who hardly managed to build a partnership that could have kept them in the game. Raju's 41-run stand for the fourth wicket with Andrew Subikshan (14) was the only bright spot for Titans.

Raju struck two sixes and as many boundaries in his 27-ball innings and Pushpa scored 26-ball 30 with three fours and a six. Skipper Sandeep Lamichhane also scored 14 runs for them.

Earlier, Sharad Vesawkar's another innovation once again worked after Kushal opened the innings for the first time and struck a 26-ball 38 in his 53-run first wicket stand with Aasif. Kushal hit five fours and two sixes.

Ravi Inder Singh, Paltan's Indian recruit, and Aasif then shared 94 runs for the second wicket leading the team towards a big total. Bhandari did the rest as he smashed five sixes and two boundaries in a blistering knock.

Sandeep Lamichhane took 2-26 from four overs, while Shahab Alam had the figures of 1-37. Seamer Dipesh Shrestha was hit for 54 runs in four overs and Pushpa bled 23 runs in his single over.
