Nepal through after 11-ball victory over Chinese

Oct 10, 2018 | CN Staff |
Nepal entered the Asian Region Qualifier of the ICC World Twenty20 after scampering to victory in just 11 deliveries in their fifth match of the Asia Eastern Region Qualifier in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.

Electing to field first, spin trio of Sandeep Lamichhane, Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi and Basanta Regmi picked up three wickets each as China were bundled out for just 26 runs in 13 overs.

Opener Binod Bhandari hit an eight-ball 24 with three fours and a six as Nepal replied with 29 without loss in 1.5 overs. The victory maintains Nepal position at the top of the table with 10 points sending them into the Asia Region Qualifier to join the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar and Kuwait.

A total of two teams will make it to the Global Qualifier for 2020 ICC World Twenty20 in Australia. Six teams will book their tickets down under for the World Twenty20 from the Global Qualifier.

Rajanshi struck in his first over -- the team's second -- before opener Hong Jiang Yan offered a brief resistance with a 15-run partnership for the second wicket with Chen Jinfeng. After Sandeep removed Jingeng in the seventh over, China went on to lose nine wickets for just five runs.

Yan top scored with a 27-ball 11 hitting the only boundary of the Chinese innings. Seven Chinese batsmen headed to the pavilion without opening their account. Man-of-the-match Sandeep returned the figures of 3-4 from four overs.

Nepal will now take on second-placed Singapore in their next match to decide the tournament champions.
