Spinner Sandeep Lamichhane starred once again with a five-wicket haul and skipper Paras Khadka slammed a half century as Nepal defeated Malaysia by eight wickets in their second match of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier Asia (Eastern Region) on Saturday.

Electing to bat first in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia had a decent start but they went on to lose their last eight wickets for just 25 runs, bundled out for exactly 100 in 19.3 overs. Nepal's opening pair once again failed before Paras and Gyanendra Malla shared a 69-run third wicket partnership leading the team to 101-2 in 12.4 overs.

With Pradeep Airee losing his side after falling for a duck in the match against Myanmar, Anil Kumar Sah and Binod Bhandari formed a new opening pair for Nepal. But the new experiment did not work as Anil fell in the second over just for a single.

Bhandari and Paras then shared 30 runs before the former lost his wicket after making a run-a-ball 12 with two boundaries.

Paras continued to play his shots after spending few time at the crease and together with Gyanendra Malla came up with another easy victory for Nepal. Paras made 52 off 37 balls with five fours and two sixes, while Gyanendra sealed the game with a six and remained unbeaten on 27 off 24. He also hit two boundaries.

Earlier, Malaysia had a modest start after openers Shafiq Sharif and Syed Aziz (13) added 30 runs for the first wicket. Sandeep stepped in an picked up wickets of Aziz and Suhan Alagaratnam in consecutive overs reducing the hosts to 36-2.

Sharif then shared 39 runs for the third wicket with skipper Ahmed Faiz (seven) before Sompal Kami struck in consecutive deliveries to trigger the Malaysia collapse. Sharif soon fell to Sandeep for 49 off 37 balls that included seven fours and two sixes.

Sandeep returned the figures of 5-20 from four overs and Sompal took 3-16 from 3.3. Paras also picked up a wicket. Nepal will now take on Thailand in their third match on Sunday.
