Aarif Sheikh starred with the bat as Nepali began their preparation tour of Sri Lanka with a 67-run victory over Army Cricket Team in Panagoda on Wednesday

Aarif scored 89 -- almost half of the team's total -- lifting Nepal to 194 all out in 48.4 overs after stand-in skipper Gyanendra Malla elected to bat first. But Nepals’ bowlers did extremely well in their defence skittling out Army for just 127 runs in 36.1 overs.

Nepal were once reeling 91-7 after the top order failed to convert their start, while Anil Kumar Sah and Dipendra Singh Airee were out for ducks.

Aarif almost played a lone hand scoring 89 off 118 in a watchful innings studded with four sixes and five boundaries. Skipper Gyanendra Malla (21 off 26 with three boundaries) was Nepal's next best scorer, while Binod Bhandari and Basanta Regmi contributed 16 runs apiece.

Aarif shared 52 runs for the ninth wicket with Lalit Singh Bhandari (11) to rescue Nepal. Madushan Fernando took three while Sanjeew Kumaraswamy and Jagath Rajapaksha also took two wickets each for Army team.

In reply, Rajapaksha topscored with 46 off 60 balls with four boundaries and a maximum while Lahiri Chamara hit a run-a–ball 26.

Basant Regmi (3-20) and Sompal Kami (3-31) shared six wickets between them for Nepal. Dipendra Airee took two while  Lalit Rajbanshi and Lalit Singh Bhandari also had a scalp each.
