Jul 15, 2018 | Saleena Shrestha |
Sagar Pun once again gave an allround display and Aasif Sheikh got involved in a match-winning partnership as Kuala Lumpur strengthened their grip in the Malaysian Premier League with fourth consecutive victory on Sunday
In their home match, Kuala Lumpur eased to a six-wicket victory over second-placed Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) that saw them firmly lead the five-team points table with eight points from six points. MAF are second with six points after the completion of four rounds in the double round robin league event.
MAF top four batsmen contributed in double figures but Kuala Lumpur spinners controlled the match before bundling out the opponents for just 166 in 48.1 overs. Sagar led the reply perfectly before Aasif built on 72-run partnership for the fourth wicket as Kuala Lumpur reached 169-4 in just 33.4 overs.
Sagar did the bulk of scoring in his 44-run opening wicket stand with Saifullah Malik (14). He made 46 off 36 with seven fours and a six. Kuala Lumpur were 77-3 in 12 overs and it was Aasif who took the game away from MAF.
Aasif played a gritty 45-ball 44 with six fours and a six in his match-winning partnership with Virandeep Singh. Virandeep was unbeaten on 32 from 67 balls with four boundaries. Syazrul Idnis took two wickets for MAF.
Earlier, Suharril Fetri top scored with a 95-ball 44 hitting five boundaries and Abdul Rashid (32) was their next best scorer. Man-of-the-mach Virandeep took 4-17 from 9.1 overs.
Muhammad Hafiz and Pavandeep Singh also had two scalps apiece, while Sagar's 10-over spell read 1-30 with two maiden overs.
