Warriors hold nerves to edge Thunders

Jul 13, 2018 | Saleena Shrestha |
Bajaj Khadak Warriors edged Bode Barsain Thunders by two wickets in the first Mayor Cup Saptari Premier League Twenty20 cricket tournament on Friday
Electing to bat first at the Public Bindeshwori Secondary School grounds, Siddhant Lohani-led Thunders made 101-9 in just 20 overs. Amit Das hit 23 while Bikram Bhusal scored not out 22 for the team. Gomnanda Amatya, Pushpa Thapa and Hashim Ansari had two scalps each for the Thunders.

Warriors reached the target in 19.3 overs but not before going through a late wobble in the game. They were once cruising at 99-6 in 17 overs with just 3 runs needed for the victory. But the match took a dramatic turn after Shrawan Yadav took two crucial wickets giving away just a couple.

Seamer Sandeep Dhungana then bowled a maiden in the 19th leaving Rohit Singh to defend a single in the last six balls. Rohit began with two dot balls but Upendra Roy played a cover drive for a single in the third ball to calm the nerves for Warriors.

Bibek Yadav, who topscored for Warriors with 42 off just 26 balls smashing three fours and three maximums, was named the man-of-the-match. He got Rs 1500. Harishankar Shah (14) and Roy (11) were other contributors with double figures.

A total of three teams are participating in the tournament organised by Saptari Cricket Association.
