Thunders edge Heroes by four runs in SPL thriller

Bode Barsain Thunders edged Tilathi Koiladi Mahindra Heroes by four runs in the first Mayor Cup Saptari Premier League Twenty20 cricket tournament on Thursday.

Electing to bat first at the Public Bindeshwori Secondary School grounds, Siddhant Lohani-led Thunders were squeezed out for 86 runs in just 19.1 overs. But their bowlers staged a remarkable comeback to beat stop Mehboob Alam’s Heroes to 82 runs in 20 overs.

Thunders sniffed victory after they left Heroes to get 24 runs from the last six balls bowled by leg spinner Bikram Kumar Bhushal. Bikash Das smashed first two balls and the fourth ball for a six leaving six to win from last two balls. Bikram bowled third delivery for a dot and Bikash only managed to score a single in the last ball.

Earlier, Rohan BK top scored for Thunders with 18 runs and Sandeep Dhungana chipped in 13. Ghanshyam Sah picked up four wickets for Heroes, while Divyanshu Mallick and Mehboob had two scalps apiece. Bikash remained unbeaten on 24 and Minash Thapa made 24 runs for Heroes.

Nandan Jha, who picked up four wickets for Heroes, was named the man-of-the-match. He got Rs 1500. A total of three teams are participating in the tournament organised by Saptari Cricket Association. The tournament had preceded by auction of the players.

In the only match on Friday, Siddhant’s Thurnders will take on Bajaj Khadka Warriors led by former U-19 national team opener Hashim Ansari.
