Sandeep's league campaign ends modest display

Sandeep Lamichhane's Global Twenty20 Canada league campaign ended on a high note on Sunday after the Nepali leg spinner picked up 2-34 for Montreal Tigers in their last league game.

Tigers, however, went on to lose the game by by one wicket in the last ball of the match against Toronto Royals. Following the result, Tigers finished at the bottom of the table in the first round of the tournament.


At the King City, Tigers managed to reach 176-4 in 20 overs on the back of half centuries from George Worker and Moises Henriques. A middle order resistance kept Nationals in the game before they held their nerve in the end of the innings to reach 179-9 in the last ball.


Royals needed 13 runs from the last over bowled by Peter Siddle. West Indies batsman Kieron Pollard took them to the brink smashing a six and four in the first two deliveries before holing out a catch in the third ball.


Siddle only conceded a single and dot in the next two deliveries leaving two to win from last ball. Kesrick Williams then hit Siddle for a boundary in the last ball to hand Royals a thrilling victory.


Sandeep, who had taken three wickets in his first three matches, took the wickets of Navneet Dhaliwal and man-of-the-match Nitish Kumar who top scored for Royals with a 23-ball 46. Skipper Lasith Malinga and Peter Siddle took three wickets each.


Earlier, Mohammad Sami took 3-34 and Keiron Pollard had one scalp for Royals. Worker made 62 from 52 with eight boundaries and Henriques struck a 39-ball 50 with four boundaries and three sixes.
