Aasif, Sagar to play in Malaysian Premier League

Jul 03, 2018 | Saleena Shrestha |
Rising young cricketer Aasif Sheikh and national team discard Sagar Pun are set to play the Malaysian Premier League that began from June 30 in Kuala Lumpur.

The 13-day 50-over team will feature five teams who will meet each other in the double round robin league before the top four sides qualify for the semi-finals. Aasif, currently in the U-19 national team, and Sagar will play for Team Kuala Lumpur who will meet Penang in their first game at the Selangor Turf Club on July 7

Team Selangor, Malaysia Armed Forces and Team UKM are the other three teams vying in the tournament. The final is scheduled for August 12 at the Kinara Oval.

Current U-19 coach Binod Das had arranged for the opportunities to the two cricketers who have been seeking good amount of exposure. While a poor run of form has seen Sagar lose his place in the national team, Aasif has not been able to live up to expectations, especially after he slammed a century in the Everest Premier League Twenty20 cricket tournament back in 2015.
