Kings XI spice up EPL early with Kevin O'Brien recruitment

Kathmandu Kings XI, one of the six franchise teams of TVS Everest Premier League (EPL) Twenty20 cricket tournament, on Tuesday confirmed Ireland cricketer Kevin O'Brien as the star recruit for its upcoming edition. 

EPL, a city-based franchise Twenty20 competition, is scheduled to be held at the end of this year and will have six franchises. Kathmandu Kings XI is  acquired by Tele Holdings Pvt. Ltd. as a legacy of Team Colors X-Factors.

O'Brien has long been remebered for his World Cup record century of 113 runs against England in the 2011 ICC World Cup with his innings helping Ireland register a historic three-wicket victory in chase of a mammoth 328 in the Asian sub-continent. His 50-ball century in the match is a record that still stand.  

Raj Jung Thapa, CEO of Kathmandu Kings XI said: “Kevin O’Brien is a world class all-rounder, always been a key player for club and country wherever he has played. Kevin is super excited to come play in Nepal for Kathmandu Kings XI”.

O’Brien has and is playing lots of domestic T20 cricket around the world for some of the biggest domestic teams like Surrey, Somerset, Northern Districts to name a few .  He has been an integral member of the Irish cricket team since 2006 and has represented Ireland in five ICC World Twenty20s, where he gave all-round performance for his country.

Kings XI had also spiced up the last edition of EPL roping in former Sri Lankan international Farveez Maharoof as a marquee player.
