Skipper Binod Bhandari broke the duck by smashing a half century to lead Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) to a 107-run victory over Province 1 in the Prime Minister Cup One Day National cricket tournament at the Tribhuvan University Stadium on Friday.

Put in to bat first in the match reduced to 45 overs due to wet outfield, Bhandari late onslaught lifted the Armymen to 225-9. Spinners Sushan Bhari, Sagar Pun and Sahab Alam did the rest as Province 1 were bundled out for just 119 runs in 29.3 overs.

Fast bowling spearhead Sompal Kami struck early in the game reducing Province 1 to 20-2 in five overs. Rajan Magar and Pushpa Thapa tried to consolidate the innings but Bhari’s dismissal of the former put Province 1 in the back foot.

Pushpa was the lone fighter for Province 1 making 59 off 72 with six boundaries and a six. He also fell to Bhari in the 30th over. Bhari took his fourth wicket in the next delivery to complete the figures of 4-15 from 6.3 overs. Rajan made 24 off 30 with four hits to the fence, while other batsmen failed to touch double figures. Sagar and Sahab also took two wickets.

Earlier, Anil Mandal and Naresh Budhayer got involved in a 52-run partnership for the second wicket after TAC lost opener Sagar Pun (eight) early. Anil made 36 from 63 balls hitting five fours and Naresh’s 41-ball 32 included five boundaries.

Already struggling in the wet morning conditions, TAC were still not safe at 152-7 in 39.2 overs before Bhandari took over Province 1 bowlers. He completed his half century in just 25 balls smashing a 29-ball 64 with six sixes and four boundaries. Man-of-the-match Bhandari hit Sandeep Dhungana for 24 runs in the last over.

Manoj Tamang took 3-39 from nine overs. Firdosh Ansari and Minash Thapa also took two wickets each. TAC now lead the Group ‘A’ table with four points from two matches.

Meanwhile, the Group ‘B’ match between Nepal Police Club and Province 6 at the Mulpani Cricket Ground was abandoned without a ball being bowled. NPC are currently leading the table with three points from two matches. Province are second with three points on net run rate.
