May 31, 2018 | Parbati Lama |

Sompal Kami played a gritty knock and returned to pick up three wickets leading Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) to a 55-run Duckworth/Lewis victory over Province 2 in their first match of the Prime Minister Cup One Day National cricket tournament at the TU grounds on Thursday.

Raju Rijal’s half century and aggressive batting from Sompal and Rajesh Pulami Magar took TAC to 244 all out in 49.3 overs. The matter got worse for Province 2 after they were provided with a revised target of 238 from 40 overs. A strong bowling line up first strangulated Province 2 batting order and ultimately restricted them to 182-9.

Opener Hari Shankar Sah and No 3 batsman Hashim Ansari kept Province 2 in the game with a 58-run partnership for the second wicket. But their middle order terrible collapsed after losing seven wickets for just 38 runs.

Hari Shankar made 34 from 33 balls with four boundaries and a six, while Hashim’s 37-ball 28 included four hits to the fence. Province 2 were heading towards a humiliating defeat at 109-8 but Rashid Khan and Suraj Patel frustrated TAC bowlers with a 43-run ninth wicket stand.

Rashid made 34 from 40 balls hitting three fours and a six before spinner Sahab Alam got rid of him. Suraj, however, continued to fight a lonely battle sharing 30 runs for the 10th wicket with Divyanshu Mallick who didn’t open the account and faced nine deliveries.

Suraj top scored for Province 2 making a run-a-ball 48 with six boundaries and two sixes. Sompal returned the figures of 3-45, while Sagar Pun, Sushan Bhari Shrestha and Sahab took two wickets apiece.

Earlier, Sagar (eight) and skipper Binod Bhandari (23) fell early before a 55-run partnership between Raju Rijal and Anil Mandal helped them cross triple figures. Raju made a composed 85-ball 50 with five boundaries and a six. Anil scored 35 off 65 with four boundaries.

Rajesh struck 40 off 44 with two fours and two sixes but it was Sompal who provided the late lift smashing 41 from just 28 balls with three fours and a six. He shared 43 runs for the ninth wicket with Sushan (12).

Divyanshu took 3-42 form 8.3 overs for Province 2. Rashid, Samsad Sheikh and Mehboob Alam also had two scalps apiece.
