May 24, 2018 | Parbati Lama |
Nepali national cricket team is set to make their One Day International (ODI) debut against familiar foes the Netherlands.

According to cricbuzz, Netherlands Cricket will host Nepal for two-match ODI series which will be played on August 1 and 3. The venue of the matches is yet to be announced, while nothing has come forward officially.

Nepal will meet Netherlands and MCC at the Lord's cricket ground on July 29 for a Triangular T20 series after which Nepal will fly to Netherlands to play their debut ODI series.

Netherlands had earned the ODI status after they claimed the title of the ICC World Cricket League Championship. Nepal, meanwhile, had realised their dream of becoming an ODI nation after finishing eighth in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe.

Speaking with cricbuzz, Dutch coach Ryan Campbell told that Netherlands was happy to host Nepal for their debut ODI series. “We are delighted to host Nepal in our country and play ODI in home ground after a period of five years. We are playing T20 Triangular series against Nepal and MCC on Lords after which we will host Nepal. We also want to show our fans that what we can do. Nepal have always attracted lots of fans whenever they visited here. So this is a good opportunity for both of us.”

Nepal had earlier visited Netherlands to play four T20 series ahead of ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers in 2015 and played two List A matches of the World Cricket League Championship in 2016.
