Apr 30, 2018 | Saleena Shrestha |
Province 7 and Province 2 entered the semi-finals of the first Manmohan Memorial Inter-Province U-16 National cricket tournament at the TU grounds on Monday.

Needing a victory to keep their semi-final hopes alive from Group 'A', Province 2 allowed Province 7 to post a tournament-high 196-8 in 30 overs. But half centuries from Amit Yadav and Bibek Yadav brought Province 2 back in the game before they reached 198-9 30 overs.

Province 2 victory effectively dashed Province 5 hopes of reaching the semi-finals despite they hammered Province 4 by a huge margin of nine wickets. In the semi-finals on Tuesday, Province 7 will meet Group 'B' runners-up Province 1 and Province 2 will clash winners Province 3.
In the first match, Rahul Bhandari topscored with a half century making 50 off 49 with seven boundaries. Narayan Joshi made 30 off 15 with a six and four balls hits to the fence. Rajan Singh (29), Suwash Ayer (22), Binod Khatri (17) and Roshan Sawad (14) also contributed to their total.

Nikhil Singh returned the figures of 2-29 in his six-over spell. Bibek Yadav, Byas Yadav, Bikram Kushwha and Samsad Ali Mansuri also had one scalp apiece for Province 7.

Province 2 had a disastrous chase after they were reduced to 49-4 at one stage but Amit, who made a 59-ball 61 with a six and four boundaries -- brought the team back in the game with a 68-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Sahil Patel (31). A mini collapse ensued then after as Province 2 lost both set batsmen along with two other wickets to be at 137-8.

But Bibek launched the fightback making 57 not out from 34 balls to sail his team home. Man-of-the-match Bibek hit six fours and three maximums. Trit Raj Das (19) was another notable contributor for Province 2. Narayan (2-31), Narendra Sawad (2-35), Mahesh Joshi (2-32) and Rahul (2-41) shared eight wickets between them for Province 7.

In the second match, Province 5 bundled out Province 4 for a low total of 77-9 in 30 overs. Anit Baral (16 off 53 with one four) and Dipendra Shrees (12 off 16) were the only batsmen to reach the double digits for Province 4. Man-of the-match Nabin Bhattarai returned the figures of 3-18 in his six-over spell for Province 5.

Ayush Pandey also took two wickets, while Kushal Malla was economical in his 1-3 from five overs.

Province 5 then chased down the low total in 9.1 overs after skipper Bishal Bikram KC and Sijan Makaju got involved in an unbeaten 81-run partnership for the second wicket. Bishal made a 30-ball 37 not out with five fours and two sixes while Sijan hit four boundaries and two maximums.
