Gorkhas ease to eight-wicket victory

Dangali Gorkhas defeated Bardiya Tigers by eight wickets in Friday’s first match of the Nepalgunj Cup Twenty20 cricket tournament on Friday.

Electing to field first, Gorkhas stopped Tigers at 129-6 in 20 overs and chased down the target in 17 overs for the loss of only two wickets.

To ease Gorkhas to victory, man-of-the-match, Manoj Sunar scored a half century with six boundaries and two maximums. Manoj and Sandeep Sunar (29) led the charge with 42-run partnershipfor the first wicket and after that skipper Amar Singh Routela (24) and Binayak Giri (23) built the winning partnership of 47-run.

Akash Bista and Abinash Bohora took one wicket each for Tigers.

At one stage, Tigers were battling at 96-6 but Avinash Bohora and Akash provided a late lift with 36-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Akash made 25 off 15 smashing a four and two sixes while  Avinash hit two maximums on his way to a nine-ball 15.

Their effort, however, still was not enough to see the team through. Rajbir Singh (28), Bharat Thapa (16), Nabin Oli (17) and skipper Subendu Pandey (12) were other batsmen to reach double digits.

Bishnu Katariya and Amar had two scalps each. Anil Kharel, Shahid Ansari and Sagar Dhakal also took a wicket each.
