Apr 04, 2018 | Saleena Shrestha |
Gyanendra Malla's Kathmandu Goldens have put their one foot in the playoffs cruising to their third consecutive victory in the Dhangadhi Premier League on Wednesday.

Skipper Malla hit back form finally with a timely half century leading his side to 137-9 in 20 overs. Attariya, who had a brilliant start in the tournament sweeping aside Rupandehi Challengers by nine wickets, went on to lose their seond consecutive match after the team was folded for just 126-8.

Attariya lost their captain and opener Subash Khakurel to finger injury at the first innings and the skipper came into bat in 19th over with the team needing 18 runs from the last eight balls. Subash blocked the first two balls from Subodh Bhati and unbeaten Vipin Chandra managed just a six from Rashid Khan in the final over.

The third consecutive win means Goldens have all but secured a place in the playoffs. Another victory might see them finish at the top of table to get into the first Qualifier. Attariya are now under immense pressure to win the rest of the matches to secure a playoff berth.

Attariya were reduced to 12-2 in 2.2 overs before Gaurav Chitkara and Dipendra Singh Airee (nine) added 50 runs for the third wicket to keep their team in the hunt. But they went on to both the batsmen in a space of one run beginning with the dismissal of Dipendra.

Chitkara top scored with a 26-ball 36 that included four sixes and a boundary. Vipin and Sandeep Jhora did the resurrection job with a 31-run partnership but once Subodh Bhati got rid of the latter Attariya began to wilt under pressure.

Vipin was unbeaten on 26 from 24 balls with two sixes and a four and Sandeep scored 21 from 20 with two fours and a six. Man-of-the-match Bhati took 3-10 from four overs, while Sunny Patel and Rashid Khan had two scalp apiece.

Goldens had identical start losing both their openers at 17-2 before Gyanendra and Bhupendra Thapa (four) added 30 runs for the third wicket. Naresh Budhayer scored freely while sharing 34 runs for the fourth wicket with Gyanendra.

Naresh made 27 off 17 with two sixes and two boundaries. Gyanendra hit four boundaries and three sixes in his 43-ball 57. Rashid Khan made 16 from nine down the lower order with a six and a four.
