Apr 01, 2018 | Saleena Shrestha |
Paras Khadka's star-studded Biratnagar Kings crashed to a shock defeat in their first match of the Dhangadhi Premier League on Sunday.

Indian recruit Puneet Mehra gave an allround display with an 18-ball cameo and struck with prized scalps of Paras and Anil Sah as Binod Bhandari-led Mahendranagar United stunned Kings by 33 runs.

Bhandari's poor run with the bat finally ended as opener as the captain provided the impetus before a late blitz from Mehra guided United to 168-5 in 20 overs. Barring Dilip Nath (10), Kings' top four batsmen gave kept their team in the hunt but their middle order failed before the team was bundled out for just 135 in 19 overs.

Prithu Baskota top scored for Kings with a 39-ball 35, while Babar Hayat smashed 32 from just 10 balls with four sixes and two boundaries. Anil chipped in 23 from 19 with three fours but rest of the Kings batsmen failed to build on.

Paras struck a 15-ball 16 with a six before losing his wicket to Mehra. Prithu hit two fours and a six. Avinash Karn took 3-22 from three overs, while Bhuwan Kari and Robeen Chhetri also had two scalps apiece.

Earlier, Bhandari did the bulk of scoring his 50-run partnership with Aasif Sheikh (nine) making a 29-ball 35 with five boundaries and a six batting as an opener. Punit Bista (24), Hari Shankar Sah (19) and Aarif Sheikh (20) all contributed but it was Mehra who did the damage.

Mehra struck three sixes and two boundaries adding a match-winning 48-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Rohit Kumar Paudel (nine). Manjeet Shrestha took two wickets for Kings with Paras and Shubham Kamat getting a wicket each.
