Nepal to play at the sacred Lord's again

Mar 26, 2018 | Parbati Lama |
The Nepali national team is set to revisit the Lord's for a Twenty20 Triangular tournament, exactly two years after setting their feet at the Mecca of Cricket.
Nepal had made their debut at the Lord's in July 19, 2016 playing against Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in a 50-over match. Nepal had gone on to win that game, played in white jersey, by 41 runs.

The team will now enjoy the shortest version of the game and will play against MCC and the Netherlands. The three teams will play each other with all three matches to be completed in a single day on July 29, informed the MCC through a press statement on Monday.

The first game begins at 10:00 AM and the last on 4:30 PM. "Nepal and Netherlands will both do battle with MCC on Sunday 29 th July, with three T20 games taking place in one day. The first match will begin at 10.00am," the release said.

Paras Khadka, captain of Nepali cricket team, said that the news has given all sorts of excitement. “It gives me immense pleasure that Nepal will play at the Home of the Cricket again this year with MCC and the Netherlands.  Playing at Lord’s is always special and we are really looking forward to it," said Paras adding to get good support for his side.

“I urge all cricket lovers, and especially the British Nepalese diaspora, to come and support the event and the Nepal team. I would also like to thank MCC and especially John Stephenson who has been working hard to promote Associate Nations. MCC and Nepal Cricket have been working together and have a wonderful relationship which we hope will continue to grow,” the skipper added.

The MCC team has visited Nepal thrice previously for various friendly series of cricket.

Stephenson said: “We are thrilled that both Nepal and the Netherlands will be joining us at Lord’s for what is set to be another uplifting day at the Home of Cricket following Afghanistan’s historic visit last year. We expect to be able to field an MCC side with some big names which will certainly make for a competitive day of cricket. We look forward to welcoming supporters of all competing sides to create what we hope will be a great atmosphere at Lord’s.”
