There will be no stopping for Sandeep: DD CEO Dua

Mar 22, 2018 | Saleena Shrestha |
Delhi Daredevils Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Hemant Dua on Thursday said there would be no stopping for Sandeep Lamichhane if the Nepali leg spin prodigy proves himselves in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Dua was here in Kathmandu to unveil the Daredevils jersey for Lamichhane who was snapped by IPL franchise on January 28 auction for a base price of INR 2 million. The recruit made Sandeep first ever Nepali cricketer to feature in the IPL.
"As much as the whole Nepal, we would also want Sandeep to play and excel, not just in the IPL but also for the national team. I think that is most impotant," Dua told reporters.

"We understand there is excitement in Nepal to see him play in the IPL. We all want him to play. But at the end of the day, its the decision of captain and coach. We would leave that to both of them to decide."

"There would be a lot of practices. Our practice session starts from March 27, we will have good 10 days before the IPL starts for us. Before that happens, he (Sandeep) will have a fair chance in practice games to showcase his talent. And if he does what he does, I am sure there is no stopping for him," said Dua.

Dua had revealed that the Daredevils scouts were tracking Sandeep for a long time before making the final call during the IPL auction in Bangalore. Dua wants Sandeep to devour a great opportunity that lies ahead of him.

"For him its a great platform, he will be rubbing shoulders with some of the greats of cricket. There can't be a better coach than Ricky Ponting who won the world cup twice, and is thrice the IPl winner. He is champion in his own way so he will learn a lot from him."

"There is Gautam Gambhir who has won one World Cup for India and has been an IPL champion for many years. Both of them are known to encourage youngsters. So I think for him to be in the dressing room with the lot of big players who played at different levels, would be a great learning curve," added Dua.
"When he comes out of IPL, he will be much better and bigger player for Nepal."

Daredevils, who are yet to win the IPL trophy, are gunning for their first title under new captain Gambhir. They will kick off their IPL campaign with the match against Kings XI Punjab on April 7.

IPL, one of the most expensive leagues in global sports, begins from April 4
