Skipper Paras Khadka's allround performance coupled with a fine bowling from Sompal Kami and Sandeep Lamichhane as Nepal defeated UAE by four wickets forge a comeback in the ICC World Cricket League Division 2 at the United Cricket Club in Windhoek, Namibia on Sunday.

Sompal and Sandeep combined seven wickets between them as Nepal bundled out UAE for just 114 runs in 31 overs. Paras then struck a fine half century in an innings that included five sixes as Nepal reached 115-6 in 28.5 overs.

Nepal lost opener Dilip Nath (two), Gyanendra Malla (five), Dipendra Singh Airee (four) and Sharad Vesawkar (three) cheaply but Paras held firm at the other end to ensure his team is left with less work to do before getting dismissed in 18th over.

Paras struck five sixes and two boundaries in a 48-ball 51 and when he was out, Nepal were 39 runs sigh of target. Aarif Sheikh and Rohit Kumar Paudel (12 not out) negotiated with the target with a crucial 27 run sixth wicket stand. Aarif hit a boundary in his 33-ball 16 and Sompal struck the winning runs hitting a six in his five-ball 10 not out.

Mohammad Naveed and Amir Hayat took two wickets each for UAE. Nepal are now second in the points table with four points and will now play Kenya in their fourth match on Monday. They must win their remaining two games to finish at the top two spots that will fetch them a place in next month's ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe.

Canada, who defeated Kenya by 59 runs stay strong at the top of the table with six points from three consecutive victories. Nepal play Canada in their last match on Thursday. Oman, who had beaten Nepal by six wickets, are third with four points. Behind them are UAE (two), Namibia (two) and Kenya (zero).

In the match reduced 34 overs, Sompal gave Nepal a positive start removing opener Ashfaq Ahmed (duck) in the first over and Ghulam Shabber (16). Karan KC then struck with the prized scalp of skipper Rohan Mustafa (seven).

After a brief halt, Sandeep came in the 18th over to remove Rameez Shahzad (four) and Muhammad Usman (naught) in consecutive deliveries reducing UAE to 54-5. The leg spinner marked his day with another scalp of dangerous Shaiman Anwar to break the backbone of UAE batting.

Anwar top scored for them with a 40-ball 30 hitting two boundaries. Paras then got rid of Adnan Mufti (18) and Mohammad Boota (15) as UAE struggled to put a challenging total on the board. Sompal polished off the tail with two more wickets.

Paras was economical in his 2-20 from seven overs that also included two maiden overs. Sompal returned the figures of 4-30 and Sandeep got 3-30 from their seven-over spell each.
