Nepal signed off from their preparation tour of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) losing to the ‘A’ team of the Emiratis by 64 runs in the third and final practice match at the ICC Academy Oval in Dubai on Friday.

Electing to bat first, UAE ‘A’ managed to reach 215-9 in 50 overs after Chirag Suri got involved in two crucial partnerships. Karthik Mayappan then picked up four wickets as Nepal were 151 all out in 38.5 overs.

Nepal will now leave for Namibia on Sunday for the ICC World Cricket League Division 2 from where the top two teams will reach March’s ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers to be held in Zimbabwe. Namibia, UAE, Kenya, Oman and Canada are the other teams in Division 2.

Skipper Paras Khadka top scored for Nepal with 41 runs from 55 balls and Dipendra Singh Airee was their next best scorer making 26 off 31. Gyanendra Malla chipped in 24 from 26. All the three leading scores hit four boundaries apiece.

Rohit Kumar Paudel (21) and Aarif Sheikh (17) were other notable contributors for Nepal. Mayappan returned the figures of 4-32 from 10 overs conceding 32 runs. Hazrat Bilal and Matullah Khan also picked up two wickets apiece.

Earlier, UAE ‘A’ were 56-5 in 21.5 overs before Suri saved the blushes with a 46-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Atirur Rehman who made 33 off 31 and hit four boundaries and a six. After Rehman’s fall, Suri brought up the most important 96-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Ali Mirza that helped them post what ultimately was a challenging total.

Suri made 85 off 102 balls with 10 boundaries before he was cleaned up by Sompal Kami. Mirza scored 42 not out from 48 deliveries with two hits to the fence. Sompla took 3-56 and Lalit Singh Bhandari got 2-46 from their 10-over spells.

Skipper Paras, Basanta and Sandeep Lamichhane also took a wicket each.

Nepal will now leave for Namibia on Sunday to participate in World Cricket League Division II starting from February 8.
