Bhupendra slams first century as TAC crush Oasis

Jan 31, 2018 | Cricketingnepal |

Bhupendra Thapa scored the first century of the Khukuri Challenger Twenty20 in Tribhuvan Army Club’s (TAC) crushing 133-run victory over Oasis Cricket Academy at the Mulpani Cricket Ground on Wednesday.Electing to bat first, Bhupendra hit six sixes and as many boundaries scoring a 66-ball 103 not out leading TAC to 236-2 in 20 overs. On a back of strong bowling line-up, TAC dismissed Oasis for just 103 runs in 18.2 overs.

The victory lifted TAC to second in Group ‘C’ on better run rate after they were tied on points with Nepal Cricket School (NCS), IOE Thapathali and Oasis. Table toppers Wai Wai Great Himalayan Cricket Academy (GHCA), who defeated NCS by 29 runs in their final group game on Wednesday, are already in the quarter-finals with 12 points from maximum four matches.

The day belonged to Thapa who helped TAC become the first team to cross 200 runs beginning with a 161-run opening wicket partnership with Indrakamal Manandhar. Indrakamal was equally lethal hammering 12 boundaries and four sixes in his 40-ball 85. Raju Rijal (20) and Rahul Kumar BK (15 not out) were other TAC batsmen to get amongst the runs.

Roshan Pulami Magar and Sanam Budhathoki took a wicket each for Oasis. They hardly had any notable contributors in the chase of a mammoth total. Seamer Avinash Bohora took 4-8 from four overs, while Lokendra Chand took 3-10 from three overs to destroy Oasis innings.

A 25-run partnership for the second wicket between opener Abhinash Singh and Aashish Bhattarai (five) was the best Oasis could do in the game. Abhinash made 21 off 22 with two fours and a six, while Susan Karki scored 17 off 12 with four boundaries. Hari Jha, Rahul and Raju Chaudhary also took a wicket each for TAC.

In the first match of the day, GHCA recovered from the early wobble to reach 179-4 after opener Arun Airee and Ishan Pandey made half centuries. NCS were restricted to 150-8 in reply.

Jitendra Singh Thakuri and Ravi Shah gave NCS a decent start adding 46 runs for the first wicket but they failed to make the most of the start. Jitendra scored 30 off 21 with seven boundaries, while Ravi was their top scorer making 37 off 35 with three boundaries.

Dipesh Das (17 not out), Rahul Pokhrel (16) and Rit Gautam (14) were other NCS batsmen to reach double figures. Rupesh Srivastav (3-32) and Ishan (2-23) shared five wickets between them for GHCA. Sagar Dhakal also had a scalp.

Earlier, GHCA were reduced to 26-2 but Arun consolidated the innings with a 50-run partnership for the third wicket with Dinesh Budhamagar (21). After Dinesh’s departure, Arun and Ishan pushed the team close to 200 runs with an 85-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Arun made a composed 52-ball 51 hitting four boundaries and a six, while Ishan was unbeaten on a 31-ball 67 with four sixes and as many boundaries. Pratish GC took two wickets for NCS.
