Former national cricket team coach Pubudu Dassanayake has hailed Sandeep Lamichhane's entry into the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Talking exclusively to cricketingnepal, Dassanayake said: "Sandeep is a good bowler. He is young and has a lot to learn. I am very happy that he has been bought by an IPL team."

Sandeep on Sunday created history by becoming the first Nepali set to feature in the multi-million dollar IPL after he was bought by Delhi Daredevils in a base price of two million indian rupees.

Dassanayake is currently coaching the American national team and he said he was well aware of the development in the IPL auction.

It was Dassanayake who had brought Sandeep to Kathmandu from Chitwan after watching him bowl among a group of youngsters at the Chitwan Cricket Academy.

He was called for the U-19 training camp before making it to the team for 2016 ICC U-19 World Cup in Dhaka.

The Sri Lanka-born Canadian also said Nepal have a huge pool of talent. "Nepal have many talented players but they don't get exposure," said Dassanayake.

Under Dassanayake, Nepal promoted to Division 1 from Division 4 in the ICC World Cricket League ladder, while the team also made their maiden appearance in the 2014 ICC World Twenty20.
