Rohit Kumar Paudel once again starred in the closing stages of the game with two consecutive balls to win Bhairahawa Gladiators a place in the final of the Everest Premier League (EPL) Twenty20 on Thursday.

Rohit made most of a drop catch from Kushal Bhurtel at the boundary rope off Rashid Khan in 18.3 overs as he guided team across the finishing line with Gladiators needing 13 runs in the final over bowled by Dipesh Bhandari.

Rohit hit Bhandari for back-to-back sixes in the first two balls and scampered for a single in the third ball to ignite a wild celebration in the Gladiators camp.

The lost left Kushal in tears and also Patriots' leg spinning sensation Sandeep Lamichhane who bled 33 runs in two overs and picked up a wicket.
Electing to field first, Gladiators restricted Patriots to 132-6 in 20 overs before sealing the victory with three balls left in the game.

Opener Pratham Salunke calmed the nerves for Gladiators who had struggled to score freely in the powerplay. Pratham Salunke hit Sandeep for three sixes in the seventh over. Gladiators were 88-6 in 15.1 overs but Rohit and Puneet Mehra (16) brought the team back in the game before it went into the final over.

Man-of-the-match Rohit remained unbeaten on 28 off 17 balls with two sixes and a boundary. Bhupendra Thapa was Gladiators' next best scorer making 19 off 29 with a six, that also came against leggie Sandeep.

Shankar Rana and Jaykishan Kolsawala gave Patriots another modest partnership sharing 51 runs for the first wicket in 9.1 overs. But the middle order once again failed to cash in on the start. It was fourth consecutive half century partnership for the new opening pair of Patriots.

Kolsawala top scored with a 37-ball 42 hitting five fours and two sixes. Sunny Patel was their next best scorer making 24 off 18 with two boundaries and a six, while skipper Gyanendra Malla made 20 off24.

Dipesh Bhandari provided a late lift with an eight-ball 18 before holing out a catch in the last ball. Bhandari produced 20 runs in the last over bowled by Hari Shankar Sah.

Puneet Mehra took 2-28 from four overs, while Aarif Sheikh also took a wicket, the prized scalp of Patriots skipper Gyanendra.

Gladiators will now take on Paras Khadka-led Biratnagar Warriors which will be their third encounter in the tournament. Gladiators had lost on both occasions, clinically.
