Nepali women begin Qualifying Series with a defeat

Nepal began their ICC Women's World Cup Qualifying Series for Asian Region with a six-wicket defeat at the hands of hosts Hong Kong on Sunday.

Electing to bat first, Nepal bundled out for 77 in 19.2 overs. Hong Kong reached 78-4 after opener Sze Wan Yip scored a match-winning 33 not out. Yip hit three boundaries in her 39-ball innings.

Yasmin Daswani (13), Shanzeen Shahzad (11) and Mariko Hill (11) were other Hong Kong batswomen to make runs in double figures. Nirmala Shahi took 2-14 from four overs for Nepal. Karuna Bhandari also had one scalp.

Earlier, Nirmala was also the leading scorer with the bat for Nepal making a 32-ball 18 without scoring in boundaries. Skipper Rubina Chhetri (12) and Rashmi Chaulagain (11) were the two others to reach double figures.

Mariko, Chan Ka Man and Chan Sau Har picked up two wickets for Hong Kong. 


In the other match of the day, Thailand hammered China by 75 runs to pose themselves as the contenders to qualify for the Global Qualifiers. Only the top team in the double round robin league
