Rising star Sandeep to play T20 tournament in Hong Kong

Apr 28, 2016 | Eddie Van Brooks |

Nepal's rising leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane has been recruited by a Hong Kong club for the Hong Kong Blitz Twenty20 tournament slated for May 27-29.

Sandeep, dubbed Nepali Shane Warne during the ICC U-19 World Cup held in Bangladesh, was recruited by Kowloon Cantons. The Hong Kong Blitz is participated in by four franchises and is organised by Hong Kong Cricket Association.

Sandeep will play under British cricketer Scott McKechnie who was in Nepal with Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) for its friendly tour in November last year. It was McKechnie who had invited Sandeep for the Hong Kong Blitz.

Rude Bar Island Warriors, Hung Hom JD Jaguars and Gii Lantau Galaxy Riders are other franchises in the tournament. The Nepali leg spinner had taken seven wickets from three matches during MCC's tour to Nepal.

Sandeep had won a widespread praise from international media during the U-19 World Cup in Bangladesh where he finished as the second highest wicket taker with 14 scalps. He had also taken a hat-trick against Ireland.
