Nepal defeated Ireland by eight wickets in their second Group 'D' match of the ICC U-19 World Cup to enter the quarter-finals of the tournament in their 16-year old history.

Nepal wrapped up the game early after bundling out Ireland for just 131-9 in 50 overs with leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane picking up a hat-trick in his five-wicket haul. Nepal reached 132-2 in just 25.3 overs.

With India playing New Zealand, who were defeated by Nepal in the first round match, at the other venue, Nepal were yet to get confirmation about their quarter-final entry. India gave the good news to Nepalese after they hammered the junior Kiwis by 120 runs.

Nepal's chase was made successful by Yogendra Karki who smashsed an unbeaten half century forging two crucial partnerships.

Nepal lost opener Sandeep Sunar in the first ball of their reply but Yogendra shared 55 runs for the second wicket with Sunil Dhamala to get their chase on track.

Sunil made 28 off 35 with four boundaries and a six before losing his wicket to Gary McClintock at 55-2. Yogendra, however, continued to impress with an unbeaten 77-run stand with Aarif Sheikh to take the team easily home.

Yogendra made 61 off 81 with eight boundaries and Aarif chipped in a 36-ball 31 with five hits to the fence.

Earlier, Sunil, Sushil Kandel and Sandeep picked up a wicket each reducing Ireland to 48-3. But the Irish were still in the game at 80-3 in 31.3 overs. However, Sandeep ripped apart the Irish middle order with a hat-trick that began with the dismissal of Lorcan Tucker, caught by Dipendra Airee. He then had set man Adam Dennison (21) caught behind by skipper Raju Rijal the next ball and subsequently bowled new man Fiachra Tucker to complete his hat-trick.

The treble from Sandeep completely shifted the momentum towards Nepal as Ireland went reeling at 80-6 in 32 overs. Sandeep soon bowled William McClintock (two) as it was only left the formalities to skittle out the Irish.
