Nepal-Oman warm-up washed out

Jul 06, 2015 | Eddie Van Brooks |

Rain played spoilsport as Nepal's first official warm-up match against Oman on Monday at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Stormont, Belfast was washed out due to rain.

Oman, who are in Group 'B' of the ICC World Twenty2 0 Qualifiers which is beginning fromThursday, made 115-4 in 16.3 overs before rain interrupted to wipe out the remainder of their innings.

Nepal were then given a revised target of 126 to win from 16 overs but rain returned once again with no play possible that. Nepal were 6-0 in three balls with Subash Khakurel batting on five and Sagar Pun left to open his account.

Gyanendra Malla stood as captain as coach Pubudu Dassanayake rested skipper Paras Khadka for the warm-up. Gyanendra, who himself bowled two overs and picked up a wicket, played with three seamers – Jitendra Mukhiya, Sompal Kami and Karan KC – and it took time for Nepal to get the first breakthrough.

Zeeshan Maqsood and Khawal Ali gave Oman a perfect start adding 59 runs for the first wicket until both fell in a space of 10 runs. Ali made 22 off 24 before Sagar had him caught by Jitendra. Maqsood was next to go to Shakti Gauchan after top scoring for his side with 44 off 31 that included four boundaries and three sixes.

Oman managed to cross triple figures early with Vaibhav Wategaonkar (23) and Jatinder Singh (14) chipping in decent scores. Jitendra was the only seamer to pick up the wicket for Nepal dismissing Wategaonkar.

Nepal will play their second warm-up against the UAE at the same venue on Tuesday before beginning their Qualifiers campaign with the match against USA on July 10 in Stormont.
