A young bowling brigade ran riot as star-studded Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club registered their second consecutive victory in the Senior One Day National Cricket Tournament at the TU Grounds on Wednesday.
Pradeep Airee along with U-19 cricketers Aarif Sheikh and Yagyaman Kumal picked up three wickets each as APF crushed Region-IV (Bhairahawa) by nine wickets. Bhairahawa, who had impressed with the bat in their huge victory over Region-IX (Dhangadhi) on Tuesday, were bundled out for just 83 runs in 32.4 overs.
Against a packed APF bowling line-up only two batsmen – Antim Thapa (18) and Kirten Gurung (14) – managed to score runs in double figures. Pradeep took a rare award of man-of-the-match with his bowling returning with the figures of 3-16 from eight overs.
If APF bowlers were in a hurry to finish off the game quickly, their batsmen did it with even better style reaching 87-1 in just 9.4 overs. Subash Khakurel was menacing in his 33-ball innings smashing 60 not out. He and Paresh Lohani (16) opened with a 60-run partnership for the first wicket.
Pradeep was the next APF batsman on eight not out when the game concluded. Subash hit 10 boundaries in his whirlwind knock. Sushan Bhari Shrestha got rid of Paresh.
