APF underline women’s cricket supremacy

Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club underlined their supremacy in the Women’s National winning their fourth straight title at the Tribhuvan University Stadium on Saturday.

In the final match, APF defeated Region-VII (Janakpur) by seven wickets for their fourth back-to-back title of the tournament. Skipper Neera Rajopadhyaya scripted another memorable day for APF when her five-wicket haul bundled out Janakpur for 98 runs in 40 overs.

APF reached the target in just 24.3 overs with an unbeaten 31 from Jyoti Pandey and an erroneous Janakpur bowling attack that gifted away 32 extra runs. Along with the title, APF grabbed a cash purse of Rs 50,000 and Janakpur took home Rs 30,000.

APF got a 33-run opening wicket stand from Madhu Thapa (five) and Sita Rana Magar (10) before both batswomen were dismissed in a space of two runs falling prey to Anuradha Chaudhary.

Jyoti then shared 45 runs for the third wicket with Sarita Magar (14) that took them close to the title. Santoshi Chaudhary had Sarita stumped by Mamta Chaudhary in the 21st over but by then APF were just 19 runs away from victory. Jyoti and Neera (seven not out) did the rest collecting the required runs without much fuss.

Earlier, Janakpur elected to bat first and were still at the game when the scores read 68-4 in 29.1 overs after Mamta made 32-ball 20 with three boundaries. However, Neera kept on striking at the regular intervals before Janakpur were folded for a low total.

Opener Anuradha Chaudhary top scored for Janakpur making 28 off 85 with two boundaries and lost her wicket to Neera. Roji Kadari (120 was Janakpur’s next best scorer.

Player-of-the-final Neera returned the figures of 5-20 from six overs. Rubina Chhetri also picked up two wickets, while Ritu Kanojiya, Binu Budha Magar and Sita had one scalp apiece.
