Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club won their second consecutive match in the Women’s National Tournament crushing Region No-II (Birgunj) by eight wickets at the Pulchowk Engineering College grounds on Tuesday.
APF restricted Birgunj, who elected to bat first, to 79-7 in 40 overs with a disciplined bowling display before cruising to the target in just 9.5 overs losing just two wickets. APF lead Group ‘A’ with four points from two matches.
The defending champions lost their opener Madhu Thapa, who had made 85 in their 175-run victory against Region No-IV (Bhairahawa) on Monday – for four runs with just eight on the board.
However, another opener Sita Rana Magar and Jyoti Pandey safely guided the team home with a 67-run stand for the second wicket. Pandey was out for 31 off 24 (five boundaries) with the team just five runs away from the victory.
Sita also made 31 off 28 with seven hits to the fence. Subhadra Adhikari and Rojina Aryla picked up a wicket each for Birgunj.
Birgunj although didn’t lose their wickets at regular intervals, they were unable to comprehend a tight bowling line-up from APF. Nisha Giri top scored for them with 24 not out from 60 balls hitting four boundaries, while Mamta Chaulagain (11) and Puja Giri (10) made runs in double figures. Both batswomen hit two boundaries each.
Binu Budha Magar picked up 2-14 from seven overs, while Rubina Chhetri bowled a tight spell of 1-10 form eight overs. Ritu Kanojiya, Sarita Magar and Karun Bhandari also took a wicket each.
