Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club once again posted their authority in the domestic cricket after they claimed the Lalipur Mayor Women’s Championship cricket tournament on Saturday.
The departmental team saw its supremacy slip away to Province 1 after losing the Prime Minister Cup in Dang three months ago. But in Kathmandu, they remained undisputed as all participating teams were no match throughout the tournament.
At the TU grounds, APF cruised to a comprehensive eight-wicket victory over Sudur Paschim Province who managed to put their biggest total against the departmental side in women’s cricket but were undone by a strong batting.
Electing to bat first, Sudur Paschim crawled to 106-7 in 20 overs after Bindu Rawal made a 54-ball 44 not out. APF returned to their usual opening pair of captain Sita Rana Magar and Jyoti Pandey and the duo added 69 runs for the opening wicket before Indu Barma and Mamta Chaudhary sealed the victory in 16.2 overs.
Sita made a 32-ball 27 hitting four boundaries and Jyoti was the top scorer making 36 off 38 with five boundaries. Both batswomen fell to run out in a space of 10 runs.
Sudur Paschim tried to claw their way back into the game but Indu and Mama played with more aggression adding 30 runs for the third wicket in just 23 deliveries. Indu made 21-ball 19 and Mamta chipped in 15 from 9. Both of them hit two boundaries apiece.
Earlier, a collective bowling effort saw APF restrict Sudur Paschim to what ultimately was a low total. Sudur Paschim made a valiant move by sending their hard-hitter Dolly Bhatta to open the innings.
The move partially paid as Dolly (14) and Bindu Rawal added 30 runs for the second wicket but that turned out to be their biggest partnership of the final.
Dolly handed an easy return catch to spinner Karuna Bhandari whom she hit for six and got five wides along with another wide getting 12 runs from one legal ball. But she ended up throwing away her wicket.
Bindu continued to hold the innings beginning with a 22-run partnership with Kabita Kunwar (13) but rest of the Sudur Paschim batting order couldn’t provide the required lift. Bindu hit four boundaries in her innings.
Apart from Karuna, Rekha Rawal, Sushma Shrestha, Sita and Binu Budha Magar also took a wicket each for APF.
