Anil ton helps TAC break records

Anil Mandal became the fourth batsman to slam two centuries in the Nationals as Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) broke records in their 134-run crushing victory over Region-VII (Janakpur) in the Senior One Day National Cricket Tournament at the Pulchowk Engineering College groundson Wednesday.

Anil followed the feats of Paresh Lohani, Raju Khadka and Amit Shrestha helping TAC pile a massive 383-6 in 50 overs in a Group ‘A’ match. The total surpassed the previous best team total of 324-5 made by Region-I (Biratnagar) in the previous National Tournament.

Anil began the day with a record sharing 215 runs for the first wicket with Mahesh Chhetri – a record stand for any wicket in the Nationals. Left with a mountain to climb, Janakpur showed some guts but ended up making 249-6 in 50 overs.

Man-of-the-match Anil made 114 off 151 balls with 16 boundaries and a six before falling prey to Raj Mohammad. Anil had smashed a century for Janakpur against Kathmandu two years back. Janakpur were relieved with the dismissal of Anil but the nightmare continued for them when skipper Binod Bhandari arrived at the crease.

Bhandari smashed nine fours and a six on his way to making 28-ball 56 that left Janakpur down and out. They, however, earned some solace removing Bhandari and Mahesh in consecutive over but more was yet to come from TAC. Mahesh was unlucky to miss a century by two runs losing his wicket to Rahul Pratap Singh.

Mahesh made 98 off 111 balls with nine boundaries and a six. With two set batsmen gone, Naresh Budhayer continued the onslaught over Janakpur clobbering an 18-ball 41 with five fours and a six. Chandra Saud smashed 15 off four with two fours and a six. Rahul and Hari Shankar Sah picked up two wickets each for Janakpur.

Hari Shankar made 48 from the top order but Janakpur were already 93-4 inside 18 overs. Rahul then pushed the Janakpur towards a respectful total sharing 122 runs for the fifth wicket with Himanshu Dutta.

Rahul made 61 off 97 with 10 boundaries before losing his wicket to Anil, while Himanshu made a 91-ball 54 with five boundaries. He was dismissed by Bhandari. Sunil Sah made 21 off 18 with three fours. Jitendra Mukhiya picked up 2-18 from five overs for TAC with Chandra and Avinash Karn also getting one scalp apiece.
