Angelo Mathews stepped down from Sri Lanka captain

Angelo Mathews has stepped down as Sri Lanka captain from
all formats of cricket after his team finished ODI home series against low
ranked Zimbabwe by 3-2.
All rounder Mathews was handed over the captaincy of Sri
Lanka team at the age of 25 in 2013 after his good performance in test matches,
ODIs and T20Is.

Mathews has lead Sri Lanka in 34 tests out of which he has 13
wins and 15 loses and six matches ended in draws. Likewise, he has led his team
in 98 ODIs and 12 T20Is.

Mathews also led Sri Lanka in World Cup 2015 in Australia
and New Zealand, T20 World Cup 2016 in India and Champions Trophy 2017 in
England where they had disappointing results.

Veteran left arm spinner Rangana Herath, left handed opener
batsman Upul Tharanga and Dinesh Chandimal had led Sri Lanka in Tests, ODIs and
T20Is during Mathews absence during injury. So Herath, Tharanga and Chandimal are
the main candidate to lead Sri Lanka after Mathew’s resignation from captaincy.
