Sharad Vesawkar struck a half century and picked up two wickets as Panchakanya Tez scalped Jagdamba Giants in their opening encounter of the Ncell Nepal Premier League (NPL) at the covered hall grounds in Kanchanpur on Friday.
In a 40-over game, Tez made 205-5 before bundling out Giants for 189 runs in 38.3 overs. Giants got off to a decent start when openers Naresh Budhayer and Mahesh Chhetri added 45 runs for the first wicket inside 12 overs.
After leg spinner Raj Kumar Pradhan provided the breakthrough removing Mahesh, Giants’ middle-order crumbled losing their next five wickets for just 44 runs. Karan KC and Sharad took two wickets each among them with left arm spinner Bhuwan Karki getting one scalp.
Naresh made 26 off 46 with two fours, while Mahesh made 24 off 33 with four boundaries. Skipper Shakti Gauchan (22) and Aansu Kandoi (21) tried to avoid the collapse with a 30-run stand. However, with Binod Das removing Shakti, Giants lost two wickets in a space of six runs. Bhuwan removed Aansu.
Som Pal Kami (14) and Prem Tamang offered a late resistance before Bhuwan dismissed the former. Prem kept playing his shots before handing a return catch to Karan for 28 off 22 after hitting three fours.
Earlier, Sunny Pun scored from the top order and shared 42 runs with Pushpa Thapa (18) taking the team across triple figures after Tez lost Sanjay Shrestha (14) and Nirmal Thapa (15) with 64 runs on the board. Sunny fell just one run short of his half century to Som Pal after scoring 49 off 66 with five boundaries. With Tez still not safe at 112-4, Sharad and Aarif Sheikh shared 93 runs for the fifth wicket taking the team across 200-run mark.
Sharad made 52 not out from 48 balls with seven fours and two sixes while Aarif scored 40 off 32 with three fours and a six. Suvankar Sanyasi and Gaurav Singh picked up two wickets for Giants.
