All round Saurav delights Bhairahawa

Saurav Khanal’s consistent performance in domestic cricket continued after the player from Region-IV (Bhairahawa) put on an all round display leading his team to a four-wicket victory over Region-IX (Dhangadhi) on Tuesday.


Saurav’s influential performance had helped New Horizon Club lift the SPA Cup two months back in Dhangadhi and he shine with both bat and ball at the Pulchowk Engineering College grounds. Saurav picked up three wickets and smashed a half century in Bhairahawa’s first victory of the tournament.


Dhangadhi didn’t have big scorers in the game but they still managed 227-9 in 50 overs. Faizal Khan and Nirmal Thapa shared a 50-run partnership for the second wicket to consolidate Bhairahawa innings but they were staring a seemingly defeat at 105-5 in 25.2 overs.


But Saurav played a superb innings and together with skipper Antim Thapa stitched a 104 runs partnership taking the game away from Dhangadhi. Saurav made 53 off 66 with six fours and a six and when he was out in the 44th over, Bhairahawa were just 19 runs away from victory.


Antim did the needful remaining unbeaten. The skipper made 68 off 101 with seven boundaries. Nirmal Thapa also chipped in 29 off 41 with three fours and a six, while Nischal Chaudhary, who shared 44 runs with Antim for the fifth wicket, contributed 23 off 39 hitting four boundaries and a six.


Lalit Singh Bhandari picked up 3-39 from 10 overs for Dhangadhi with Ravi Bhatt also picking up 2-14 from five overs.


Dhangadhi innings was given shoulders by a 65-run partnership for the second wicket between Dipendra Chand and Prakash Thapa before other batsmen contributed with modest scores. Dipendra made 37 off 51 with six boundaries and Prakash contributed 27 off 48 with two fours and a six.


Opener Sunil Dhamala (25), Binod Lama (24 not out), Lalit (24), Bhim Sarki (21) and Roman Bam (20) also contributed to the total. Apart from Saurav, Bishnu Pandey also picked up three wickets for Bhairahawa.
