Kantipur Gurkhas put an all-round display to hammer Colors X-Factors by 183 runs in the Ncell Nepal Premier League at the Fapla Cricket grounds in Dhangadhi on Friday.
Gurkhas piled a tournament-high 287-9 in 50 overs after a half century from Pradeep Airee and numerous contributions. X-Factors, in reply, were 104 all out with 90 balls to spare after spinners controlled the game.
X-Factors, who lost their second consecutive match, had only three batsmen to score in double figures with Faizlur Rehman Khan scoring 38 off 30 with six boundaries and a six. Skipper Gyanendra Malla came into the match after his marathon knock of 77 runs against Vishal Warriors on Thursday but it was not his day either.
Gyanendra played some exquisite shots hitting four boundaries but was bowled by Aakash Bista after making 22 off 17. With the departure of Gyanendra, X-Factors lost their last seven wickets for just 26 runs. Skipper Basanta Regmi and Aakash did the job for Gurkhas picking up three wickets each, while Lalit Singh Bhandari took the first two wickets to fall. Rajesh Pulami (13) was the other X-Factors batsman to make runs in double figures.
Earlier, Gurkhas got off to a perfect start when openers Subash Khakurel and Suman Shrestha added 52 runs for the first wicket. Amar Singh Routela dismissed Subash for 28 off 31 after the national team starter hit two fours and a six.
Pradeep then involved himself in four partnerships that saw Gurkhas cross 200-run mark before 40 overs. Pradeep shared 29 runs with Suman (27), 30 with Santosh Bhatta (seven), 44 with Antim Thapa (27) and 5 with Basanta Regmi (23).
Man-of-the-match Pradeep made 67 off 62 with five fours and two sixes. X-Factors might have though they were on the top when Amar Singh removed Pradeep and Basanta in two deliveries but more was yet to come from Gurkhas.
Aakash Gupta (23), Surendra Chand (20), Santosh Baral (20) made some quick runs taking Gurkhas close to 300 runs. Aakash was 12 not out from six balls. Rahul Pratap Singh and Hari Shankar Sah also picked up two wickets for X-Factors.
