Wushu player Chahana Bomjan Lama pipped her closest contenders Sirish Gurung of swimming and Akash Bista of cricket to win the Pulsar Sports Award Youth Player of the Year.
A bronze medallist in the World Junior Wushu Championships held in Macau, Chahana also got the better of Niru Thapa of football and Ratnajit Tamang of badminton.
The Youth Player of the Year is the first award given by Nepal Sports Journalists Forum in a grand ceremony ongoing at the Nepal Academy Hall.
Cricketer Akash was nominated for the Youth category following his allround performance in the ACC U-16 Tournament held in Malaysia. Akash had made 107 runs and taken 17 wickets from six matches in the tournament where Nepal finished second.
Cricket still has four more nominations in the Award with skipper Paras Khadka nominated in both the Player of the Year (Male) and Popular Player of the Year. His teammate and national team left arm spinner Basanta Regmi is also nominated for Player of the Year (Male).
Coach Pubudu Dassanayake has been nominated for Coach of the Year award.
